Supplychain……Sarah Ford

Now I must admit that I’ve never been a fan of ring cushions and handmade guest books, that is until Sarah Ford from Sarah Ford Designs got in touch! She sent me some pics of some of her work and I was bowled over. Take a look for yourself……

Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Sarah I’m a textile designer maker based in the North East of England. I design & make couture hand embroidered wedding accessories & gifts. My collections include ring cushions, guest books & napkin rings, all of which I like to think of as not only functional products but also treasured pieces of art work. All of my designs are hand sewn & highly embellished, this give a luxurious & aesthetically pleasing element to my work.

How did your business begin?

After graduating from a degree in Textile & Surface Design, all I wanted to do was embroider. I was determined not to follow the norm, so set myself up in business with local funding, support & networking I created a growing business from which I initially started creating individual designs & products for home wares, gift & special occasions.

How did you come up with the name?

I thought it appropriate to use my own name being a designer-maker it just seemed to work.

Do you make bespoke designs?

I do, with every product being handmade I can personalise any product to suit the theme or colour of any wedding.

Where do you get your inspiration from for designs?

My main inspiration comes from ‘Haute Couture’ design, florals, foliage, nature, jewellery & symmetric patterns.

What is your absolute favourite thing to do?

Embroidery, I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Tell us something unusual about yourself.

I love to go to boxercise classes in my spare time.

What is the last book you read?

I admit I don’t tend to read a lot of books. I prefer to read design & trend magazines, I also like online articles, with the design industry being so fast pasted I find online is the best way to keep up to date with what’s new & exciting.

What is the most unhealthy thing in your fridge at the moment?

It’s not in my fridge but its my guilty pleasure, that’s crisps!

Who would play you in a movie?

I’m not sure really, I would like to star in an action film!

If you like what you see you can see more at Sarah’s website or on Facebook.
