Make it Monday…..coasters

This is such a versatile and cheap idea for wedding favours. Be warned, it is time consuming but it’s one of those jobs that you can work on over a period of a few weeks. The original post can be found on Style Me Pretty.
Materials:
Square ceramic tiles {these can be bought for around 11p each from stores such as Homebase}
Decoupage glue {try GreatArt}
Paper {use scrapbook paper, napkins, book pages or ask your stationery designer for extra paper to match your invites}
Foam brushes {try GreatArt again}
Felt backing {try Amazon}
Paper cutter
Heavy duty glue {try GreatArt again}
Acrylic sealer {Yep you guessed it, GreatArt}
Ribbon or raffia for tying

1. Clean the tiles with alcohol to ensure the surface is clean.
2. Cut the paper to size {approx 1/4″ smaller than the tile}.
3. Brush the tile with e generous coating of the decoupage glue. Work quickly to attach the paper.
4. Place the paper on the tile and press to get rid of any air bubbles. Ensure the edges are stuck down properly or they will peel off. Allow to dry for around 15-20 minutes.
5. Apply another layer of the decoupage glue to the paper. Be careful to brush in one direction as the brush strokes will be visible when it dries. Allow to dry for 15-20 minutes. Once dry apply another 2 layers and leave to dry again.
6. Once the last layer is dry apply a coat of the sealant, following the instructions on the packaging.
7. Once the coasters are dry cut squares of the felt backing and fix these to the back of the tiles with the heavy duty glue.
8. Once completely dried package the coasters up and tie with ribbon or raffia.
You can attach tags or you can place them on a side table with a sign on the table instructing guests to take one. Use humour too with a sign saying something such as “The next drink’s on us” or “Coasting into married life”. Remember that the coasters don’t all have to be the same. Mix and match designs or create sets made up of 4 letter words such as love or life with a letter per coaster. You can use them to stand centrepieces on too and then give them to guests at the end of the day.
